Detainees at Guantanamo Bay

Andy Worthington has prepared a list of all the detainees and their current status, which he has posted on his blog. He has also prepared a list of all federal district court rulings on Guantanamo detainees' habeas corpus petitions.

Local No More Guantanamos coalitions have prepared stories and literature on the following detainees:

Abdul Aziz Naji

In July of 2010, the Obama administration transferred Mr. Naji to Algeria, against his will. On November 3, 2010, Mr. Naji's legal team—Ellen Lubell and Doris Tennant—issued the following update on their client, including a request for funds to cover mental health care and a prosthetic leg. The excellent prosthetic Mr. Naji was wearing when he was turned over to the U.S. was broken during his torture, and the U.S. replaced it with one that fit so badly that he was unable to walk.

Abdul Ra’ouf Al Qassim

Mr. al-Qassim was released and sent to Albania in late February 2010.

Ahmed Belbacha

Current status: 
Cleared, no charges

A former footballer, Ahmed Belbacha was born in Algiers in 1969. He left his homeland in 1999, after receiving death threats from militants because he worked for a government-run oil company, and sought asylum in the UK.

Ahmed lived and worked in Bournemouth, first at a laundry and then at the Swallow Royal Hotel, where he was responsible for cleaning John Prescott’s room during the 1999 Labour Party conference. For his diligence, he received a thank-you note from the Deputy Prime Minister and a tip for his service.

Ahmed Errachidi

Current status: 
Cleared, no charges

 Ahmed Errachidi is a gourmet chef who worked at the Westbury Hotel in Mayfair (London, England). He had two young sons, one of whom was in dire need of a heart operation in 2001. He left for Pakistan in September of that year to buy silver jewelry there which he hoped to resell in Morocco in order to raise the money for his son's operation. However, in October of that year, when the US invaded Afghanistan, he left Pakistan to attempt to help civilians affected by the war.

Dilawar of Yakubi

Dilawar was a 22-year-old peanut farmer from Yakubi, Afghanistan. He used to drive the tractor on his family's farm, but eventually switched to driving a car his family bought him, which he used as a taxi. He picked up two passengers in Khost, and was then stopped at Fire Base Salerno by militiamen which the US had hired to provide local security around the base. His car was searched, and an electric stabilizer was found. He was accused of being involved in the rocket attacks on Fire Base Salerno earlier that morning, and chained to a fence with his passengers overnight.

Ravil Mingazov

A judge ordered Ravil's release on May 13, 2010, under the writ of habeas corpus

Ravil Mingazov was born in Russia in 1967. He became a ballet dancer with several dance troupes. Conscripted into the Russian Army at the age of 19, he first served in the Army ballet troupe. After his conscription ended in 1988, he served voluntarily until 1996 and later returned to the military in the food supply section, where he took over a program that was in bad shape and transformed it into a model program, “the best in all the Army's.” In recognition of his achievement, he said that the General gave him a watch.
