Write to the Remaining Guantánamo Bay Prisoners

Sixteen years is a long time to be held in an offshore prison, away from family and friends, with no idea when--if ever--they will be freed.  Please let them know you are thinking of them by writing a brief letter or sending a card to one of them.

Here is a list of remaining prisoners at Guantánamo.  Reprieve has posted a subset of this list, which offers a detail or two about each man's situation or interests.

No More Guantánamos urges its readers who can travel to Washington, DC, on January 11, 2012, to join us in observing the tenth anniversary of the illegal prison at Guantánamo Bay. The demonstration, sponsored by a broad coalition of organizations including NMG, will begin with a noon rally at Lafayette Square. Organizers are calling for more than 2,000 demonstrators in orange jumpsuits, representing prisoners at Guantánamo Bay, Bagram, and secret prisons, to form a human chain extending from the White House to the Capitol.

Dilawar of Yakubi

Dilawar was a 22-year-old peanut farmer from Yakubi, Afghanistan. He used to drive the tractor on his family's farm, but eventually switched to driving a car his family bought him, which he used as a taxi. He picked up two passengers in Khost, and was then stopped at Fire Base Salerno by militiamen which the US had hired to provide local security around the base. His car was searched, and an electric stabilizer was found. He was accused of being involved in the rocket attacks on Fire Base Salerno earlier that morning, and chained to a fence with his passengers overnight.
